Snake Ball

by Aidan Andrew Dun

Snake ball 2

A loom of the willow
tangle of moon-wood
mesh of union, gathering

You gave me long ago
in the valley, now
I cradle in my hands

A complex sphere:
our closeness is all here
how well we were fastened.

How long we followed
each other in many things
making round the other rings

A spin of dancing worlds
traced round a central sun
the fire of life so near.

This elegant ball
one could crush in the hand:
so delicate.

Shadow falls in this land
darkness pulls apart
destroying the heart.

Now I ask everyone:
How was need unjoined
deep love undone?
