If Only the Afterlife

by Aidan Andrew Dun

If only
the afterlife
was fantasy:

How convenient
to rest after
evil days

Untroubled
by tiresome
conscience.

Profound is death
deeper than
this life

Mostly
the visible spectrum
my friends.

We don’t see
radio-waves
passing

Don’t hear
angelic voices
sans antennae

Don’t know
what happens
when someone

In drunkenness
loses consciousness
‘passes out’.

What passes out
leaves the body
returns?

We don’t
see everything or
even half of it.
