A night jewelled
inlaid with sunlight
from thousands of
nearby suns, each one
far brighter than
multicoloured Sirius.

A night-sky
like a chandelier
suspended in the
cosmos; flashing
tiara on the temples
of Black Maryam.

Realize, these vast
emeralds are stars!
We’re surrounded here
by the solar giants
populating the heart
of the galaxy.

This is the axis
region of non-spinning.
No memories which have
forgotten this sky
can claim to have
come from very far.
